Pickin' in the Park, Ron Henry Horseshoe Bend Park , McCaysville, GA. Come and enjoy Pickin' in the Park - every Thursday at 6:00 pm to dusk. Live music jams and pickin' on the banks of the Toccoa River at the Horseshoe Bend Park in McCaysville. Free Admission. And the park is wheelchair accessible. Come out and bring the whole family to enjoy the experience. Scattered picnic tables available, nice grassy lawn but you are also welcome to bring a blanket or chair. July 3rd
Firecracker Special Train Ride, Blue Ridge Scenic RailwayEnjoy the fireworks a day early and ride the Firecracker Special to McCaysville, no worries about where to park or sitting in traffic! Watch the fireworks from the comfort of your seat on the train or absorb the excitement around you by hanging out downtown. The fireworks are shot off from the top of Tater Hill outside out town, so can be viewed from anywhere in town. Train begins boarding at 7:00 pm and departs at 7:30 pm for a ride along the Toccoa River to McCaysville for the fireworks. Rockin in the Park, Downtown Blue RidgeEnjoy the music of three rockin' roll bands that will play from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in downtown Blue Ridge to celebrate the Fourth of July. Featured bands are Breaking Point, Surrender and Raven. The downtown merchants will be staying open until 9:00 p.m. Come down at 5:30 pm to the City Park for a plate of spaghetti for only $5.99 for adults and children are 1/2 price. Fireworks, Independence Day Celebration, Tater Hill, McCaysville, GA. The TriCities Business Association continues a long standing Copper Basin tradition of celebrating our nation's independence with a fireworks display from the top of "Tater Hill" in McCaysville a half an hour past sunset (approximately 9:30 pm). The fireworks can be seen from almost all areas of town. Stores & Restaurants will be open late. Other activities during the Independence Day weekend include an old fashioned street parade on Main Street in Ducktown, a Pancake Breakfast in Epworth and Miner's Homecoming activities all weekend.

Independence Day Fireworks Celebration, Blairsville, GA. This year's fireworks display will be held on Friday evening, July 3rd at Meeks Park at approximately 9:30 pm weather permitting. Fireworks are sponsored by the Blairsville-Union County Chamber of Commerce and United Community Bank, Blue Ridge Mountain EMC, Appalachian Community Bank, and Nantahala Bank & Trust.

July 3 - 5th Miner's Homecoming Weekend, Ducktown, TN. (20 minute drive from Blue Ridge)Enjoy an old fashioned 4th of July Celebration and walking parade. Activities kick off with the Tri-Cities fireworks in McCaysville on July 3rd. Saturday, July 4th, Pancake Breakfast at 7:00 am. July 3 - 4thLive Music and Fireworks / Copperhill, Runway Fireworks at 400 Ocoee StreetCome and have a day of fun with live entertainment by Lee and Charlie Standley of "Rocket Man & The Rockers." Live music on Friday from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. Saturday entertainment is from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. followed by evening fireworks. Old Timers Day Parade, Downtown Blue Ridge. Enjoy an old-fashioned Fourth of July parade in downtown Blue Ridge. Bring out the entire family. Event starts at 10:00 am and is sponsored by the Blue Ridge Business Association. Contact Bill Hammond for more information 706-632-4000.

July 4th Boat Parade on Lake Nottely, Blairsville, GA. The annual Union County Fourth of July Boat Parade will take place again at Lake Nottely Marina. Boats can be decorated in any theme they wish. Several creative boats are presented trophies, with a grand prize also awarded. Boats should line up at Lake Nottely Marina beginning around 11:00 am - 11:30 am. Boats will pass in review beginning at 11:30 am, then trophies will be awarded. The parade down the lake starts at 12:00 noon. There is no charge to participate in the parade. Visitors can view the parade from many locations around Nottely Marina.

July 15 - 26thGeorgia Mountain Fair, Hiawassee, GA. Georgia Mountain FairgroundsThis twelve day annual award winning fair, has arts and crafts, regional food, Pioneer Village with living exhibits, country, bluegrass and gospel music by nationally known performers. July 18 - 19th Butternut Creek Festival, Meeks Park, Blairsville, GA. This the 11th Annual Butternut Creek Festival at Meeks Park featuring 65 of the finest artists and crafters in the North Georgia Mountain area. The two day festival showcases the work of 65 of the finest artists and craftsman in the North Georgia Mountain area, in categories from basketry, fine art, fabric art, and decorative painting, to glass, jewelry, metal working, photography, pottery, and woodturning. July 24 - 26th and July 31 - Aug 2nd Classic Musical Comedy / The Fantasticks, Blue Ridge Community Theater. The Fantastics is one of the longest running plays off Broadway and is an American classic that brings audiences back again and again to hear the story of "A boy, a girl, two fathers, and a wall" and the music that defined generations. This is an evening of true theatrical magic. Showtimes are Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 pm. and Sundays at 2:00 pm. May 1 Culinary Art Celebration / The Martyn House 912 Flat Branch Road, Ellijay Georgia.
Kick off your weekend with celebrating the arts. This fun event includes refreshments, appetizers and a silent auction of registered and visiting artists' work, and a door prize drawing. Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the silent auction wraps up at 9:00 p.m. Guests pay a $25.00 entry fee. Door prize tickets are available for $5.00. This event takes place at the Martyn House. The Martyn house is open several times throughout the year to host, sustainable dinner parties, healing retreats, artist appreciation weekends and Artist Studio Tours. This event is a FREE Self-guided studio tour and social event. May 8 - 10, 15 - 17, 22 - 24, and 29- 31 Comedy / Harvey Blue Ridge Community Theater, 11 Mountain Street next to Blue Jeans Pizza. Comedy/Harvey is an eccentric comedy by Mary Chase. Elwood P. Dowd is perhaps one of the most-loved characters of stage in the 20th century. Elwood is polite and cheerful and always friendly toward any strangers he might encounter. He has just one problematic character trait: his best friend is an invisible six-foot-tall rabbit! The fun begins as his sister and niece try to have him committed. May 9 Georgia Mountain Classic Car Show, City Park in Blue Ridge Main Street.
Come and see over 200 classic cars. Registration starts at 9:00 a.m. Door prizes and trophies for the top 25 trucks and trophies for the top 50 cars and specialty awards that include Mayor's Choice, Chief of Police Choice, Best Chevy and Best Ford and numerous other specialty awards. May 16 Smokie Mountain Melodies Show, Fannin County High School Performing Arts Center Smokie Mountain Melodies presents, "Front Row Center 09" a Spring production with all female Barber Shop. Phyllis Baker is a highly-respected Director from Pinellas, Florida who has directed on International stage. She has taken the Smokie Mountain Melodies of 15 members singing four part harmony and grown it to approximately 39 members within a short period of time. May 23 - 24 Arts in the Park, City Park - Downtown Blue Ridge Downtown Blue Ridge 33rd Annual Festival. This festival features over 200 arts, crafts and food booths and is a must see during your visit to Blue Ridge. The Arts in the Park boasts the best in mountain crafts and fine arts, artist's demonstrations, music and dance. The Arts in the Park has been recognized as one of the Top 20 Events by the Southeastern Tourism Society. The event is sponsored by the Blue Ridge Mountains Arts Association. Blairsville May 8, Free Concert at John C. Campbell Folk School 07:30 PM - 08:30 PM Widely acclaimed, Betty Smith has sung from Florida to New York, from Vancouver to England, sharing her extensive repertoire of Southern, Appalachian and British ballads, folksongs, hymns and children's songs and games. Singing unaccompanied or accompanying herself on guitar, mountain dulcimer and autoharp, she has delighted audiences of all kinds through personal appearances and her recordings for the Folk Legacy, June Appal and Bluff Mountain Music labels. She is the recipient of many music and folklore awards including the Brown-Hudson Folklore Citation of the North Carolina Folkore Society and membership in the Mountain Music Hall of Fame. www.folkschool.org

June 13 & 14th Blairsville's Scottish Festival and Highland games.

Celtic Music Festival, Dahlonega GA

The Blue Ridge Mountain Adventure Race
Organizers of the Twelfth Annual Blue Ridge Mountain Adventure Race on April 4, 2009, promise a challenging contest with lots of surprises and some of the most stunning scenery anywhere -- plus the famous Blue Ridge hospitality racers have come to expect and enjoy. So get your team ready to run, paddle, mountain bike and navigate in the beautiful North Georgia Mountains. Up to 100 co-ed teams of three (plus one support person) will run along the forested trails of the Chattahoochee National Forest, paddle on the Toccoa River and/or Lake Blue Ridge, mountain bike steep trails and complete mystery challenges along the way. Although the course changes from year to year, the finish line is still in downtown Blue Ridge City Park, with live music, food and relaxing fun.
