Tru the Mountains - Big Success

Escape to Blue Ridge would like to personally thank AJ and Kristy Patrillo for successfully hosting and organizing the Inaugural Tri the Mountains triathlon this past weekend. Our management team cannot express how much fun we all had, and it was obvious that others did as well. Their hard work in putting this all together was clearly evident in what turned out to be an extremely well organized event, and there's no doubt that Blue Ridge shined on Sunday as a result.

We were proud to hear conversations going on around us with people remarking on the beauty of the area, the great event, and our favorite...."I can't believe we've never come here before".

It was also great to have the opportunity to participate on a sponsorship level. This event dovetails nicely with our philosophy to promote all the great activities available in Blue Ridge so others can learn firsthand about this North Georgia vacation treasure.

2010 Tri The Mountains Sprint Triathlon

Escape to Blue Ridge is a proud sponsor of the 2010 Tri the Mountains Sprint Triathlon and will award the top 3 men and woman groups with their own EBR biking jerseys. This will be an incredibly scenic race in the North GA Mountains! The swim will be in the crystal clear waters of Lake Blue Ridge. The bike is an 18 mile out and back crossing over the lake with mountains towering in the background. The run will follow the same route over the dam and is an out and back as well. Awards and the after party will take place in Historic Downtown Blue Ridge and should be one to remember. If you have never visited Blue Ridge GA, put this on your race schedule! Come see why Blue Ridge is becoming a triathlon mecca!

Course Info: SWIM: The 600 yard swim course in the beautiful, clear waters of Lake Blue Ridge is a one loop affair around a triangular course, which is laid out nicely for a fast first leg of the day.

BIKE: Once out of the water, the athletes run up the boat ramp to the transition area where they will grab their bikes for the 18 mile out and back bike course. Racers will cycle up a slight climb out of the marina to a right on Old Hwy 76, and then enjoy the first of many long downhills. They will cross over the Lake Blue Ridge Dam and will be treated to amazing views of the Lake and Mountains to the right, and the Toccoa River to the left. The ride over the dam is flat and then the next 8 miles will be rolling and fun, with a few longer climbs and incredibly fast downhills. Athletes will turn around at mile 9 and head back to the transition area. They will be greeted by a nice downhill to the Marina. RUN: The beautiful one-lap run course follows the same route as the bike with an easy climb out of the marina followed by a long downhill to the dam. Once on the dam, the run will be flat until the climb back up to the marina. Following this climb, racers will love the downhill into the finish. Directions: 335 Marina Drive, Blue Ridge, Georgia 30513

Vogel State Park

Vogel state park is located in the shadow of Blood Mountain and is in the heart of Georgia's Chattahoochee National Forest. The centerpiece of the park is 20-acre Lake Trahlyta, created when the Corps dammed Wolf Creek. Vogle State Park offers many activities for the entire family, including paddle boating around the lake, swimming, fishing and hiking on many beautiful trails. Lake

Nottely
Lake Nottely is nestled in the mountains and valleys of the Chattahoochee National Forest. It covers over 4,180 acres and has 106 miles of shoreline. Lake Nottely is located in Union County northwest of the town of Blairsville, Georgia. The quaint mountain lake has clear deep water and an abundant striper population. Hundreds of private residential home sites are located along the shoreline but the recreation area is open to the public and features a beach and camping area which is a great place for viewing wildlife.
Lake Nottely, a TVA lake, is used for power generation and flood control. The water level in Nottely Reservoir varies about 32 feet in a normal year. The lake is bordered by the Chattahoochee National Forest, which adds to the beautiful scenery. For the fisherman in family, Lake Nottely is known for its black and striped bass, walleye, and rainbow trout. The lake also has several shores, which are perfect for swimming and lounging around on a sunny day.

Lake Winfield Scott
Completed in 1942, Lake Winfield Scott is the lasting legacy of the Civilian Conservation Corps in North Georgia. Named for General Winfield Scott, who led the United States Army for forty years and ran for President in 1852. This beautiful setting features campsites, fishing, and some of the best hiking in the eastern United States, including two Appalachian Trail access trails.
The 18-acre lake that is the centerpiece of the park is the headwater of Cooper Creek, which winds from the lake to the Toccoa River. Two roads provide access to the park, although one (the north entrance) is only for lake access. The other allows access to the summer home area, hiking trails, and lakeshore facilities including a boat launch, dock and swimming area. A modest fee is required.
Campsites are large and wooded. Each has a picnic table, grill, and fire ring. The 36 sites are divided into two areas.
